Designer & Artist

In 2005, Marybeth Ting moved to Toronto where she discovered her passion for verre églomisé, an ancient technique that uses genuine gold, silver, and copper to create artworks that shine with luxury and exclusivity. This technique, known for its depth and radiance, mirrored the opulent and intricate designs that had captured Marybeth's imagination during her childhood in the Philippines. There, the ornate gilded altars and grand interiors of Spanish colonial churches had left a profound impression, weaving a rich tapestry of cultural heritage that would later inspire her artistic pursuits.

With a strong background in interior designer, Marybeth has mastered the traditional methods of verre églomisé and added modern elements like patinated surface, mother of pearl inlays . Her profound connection to her roots and innovative approach to design culminated in a significant achievement: the commission to design the Shrine of Saint Therese of the Child Jesus in Manila. This project not only showcased her exceptional ability but also cemented her reputation as an artist capable of blending historical reverence with modern sophistication

Marybeth's commitment to excellence extends beyond her studio. As an esteemed instructor with The Society of Gilders and a member of design organizations including the American Society of Interior Designers New York-Metro and the Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario, she shares her knowledge and passion with both peers and protégés.

Today, Marybeth's artworks transcend geographical boundaries, gracing collections and luxury spaces around the globe. Each piece tells a story of heritage, passion, and relentless pursuit of beauty and an enduring legacy.

My focus is to bring a modern and functional take to verre églomisé by combining more fluid nature motifs that represent the temporal essence of life with geometric patterns and textures using a variety of traditional methods, including gilding, etching, and reverse painting. My work is a salute to artisans of the past who inspired me and whose work cannot be replicated by modern technology and to carry their methods into the present to create a legacy of its own.
